Relationship Circles

Welcome to March! I am looking forward to spring break—spending time with my family and
collecting shells at one of my favorite places on Earth, Ft. Clinch State Park. This represents
what Dr. Rangan Chatterjee refers to in his text, “Make Change That Lasts” as one circle of our
relationships, family. While I have explored many metaphors to think about relationships, I love
the idea of circles representing the evolving and often non-linear nature of our relationships. He
suggests community, friends, family, and a partner as the primary circles in our lives.
So, how are your relationships going? What can you do to close the circle of each area? Do you
think there are circles he has forgotten? As John Townsend suggests in “Relationship Fuel” each
circle represents relationships functional and relational needs we all have. For our conversation,
relationships are defined as close connections between people that meet mutual needs. This
month, I am excited to encourage and equip this community by answering the following
questions:

-How do Relationships relate to Identity?
-How do Relationships relate to Purpose?
-How do Relationships relate to Direction?

I would encourage you to begin reflecting on your relationships. When it comes to relational
circles of: community, family, friends and partner—which one could be strengthened? What
steps could you take today to close the circles further of your relationships? How would this
strengthen you to take steps forward? Let’s stay connected this month to learn about how full
circles make all the difference!

Thriving Together,
~Erin Mander
